Dear God,

Awaken our spirit to see the fullness of your living presence, O Lord!  How is it possible to see and not see, hear but not hear, taste and not taste?  It is because we are not awakened to your spirit in our midst.  Oh, what we miss when we are "asleep."

Macrina Wiederkehr in her book, A Tree Full of Angels, talks about sleep, blindness and deafness.  We are all of these, O God, I am sorry to say.  Sometimes I close myself off from being spiritually aware of your presence.  What is wrong with me?  Why would I want to miss one second of your loving presence in our midst?

Ordinary moments can be holy moments with spiritual awareness, ordinary moments without.  Every day you walk among us, whispering words of challenge, transformation and hope.  You show us the way to you.  You open doors and windows to our hearts, minds and souls.  You breathe into us the air of redemption, love and grace.  Oh, to be beneficiaries of your spirit, O God!

Wondrous God,
open us fully
to your
holy spirit.
Let the wind
of your spirit
blow upon us.
Speak and
help us hear.
