Dear God,

We cannot live in a world where only my world is important.  I cannot just create a world of wonder for me without considering all those who need a world of wonder as well.  I cannot just take care of me without helping take care of others.

In so many ways we are a selfish people, O God.  We cannot forget your mandate to love others as we love ourselves.  In so doing we create a world of compassion, mutual care and respect and love.  With such a world we find hope, joy and blessing.  Otherwise, we are fraught with despair, forgottenness and isolation.

Show us again

the way

to love,

O God.

When we begin

with you

each day,

we are enabled

to begin again

to love

our neighbor,

the stranger,

the hurting

and helpless

and the unloved.

Oh, teach us, God,

teach us,

I pray.
