Dear God,
Today I filled my Christmas tree with ornaments, some very old and fragile, new and recently handmade, some given by friends and parishioners, some created by grandchildren and others picked up while visiting other nations. It was in the midst of the decorating that I suddenly realized the treasures brought back people who left this world long ago and those I have not seen for years. What a joy to have a room full of loved ones.
Only you can make such happenings occur, O Lord, only you. Otherwise, a tree is a tree, ornaments are simply ornaments but faith changes everything. It makes the impossible possible. Loved ones can return blessing and inspiring. Memories come to the forefront of love exchanges, friendship outings and special events in foreign lands. Sadness can become joy. Loneliness can turn to fullness. And finally peace can overcome the chaos.
