Dear God,

Tables, that's what came to me this morning, tables where I have sat and was instructed, fed, challenged, guided, embraced, scolded, blessed and inspired.  So many tables!

My grandmother's table is the family table that stands out to me.  There she read her Upper Room devotional, placed her home-canned food, pies and farm-cooked favorites but also where she prayed for family, friends and the world.  Her table was a table where love existed.  Everyone was welcomed to her table.

There have been many altar tables where holy food was offered, where we knelt and prayed and gave our thanks and praise.  Retreat tables where a weekend get-away ended with worship and faith renewed.  Invisible tables where grace and hope were offered.  Tables that kept me going, challenged me to rise to new levels of faith and love and rid me of stains, mistakes and despair.  Tables where you resided to give peace.

Holy God,
thank you
for the blessing
of tables.
Thank you
for giving me life
at your table.
Thank you
for the table
where I
now sit.

Yours, Andrea
