Dear God,

Hope does not come from fantasy.  It is rooted in belief that something greater than ourselves is at work in the cosmos.  When we find ourselves in impossible situations, we can fall deeply in despair or believe by trust something more is stirring.  We may hope for a brighter day but it may still rain and storm.  The difference is that we believed in something more; therefore, our hope lifts us up.

Hope is encased in mystery because mystery opens us up to more.  The truth is we all live in small boxes of belief, experience and faith.  Only when our boat is rocked do we cry out for something beyond the box.  When we believe there really is more beyond the box, our box grows larger.  Our possibilities increase.  Faith, belief and experience can widen and deepen.  When we open ourselves to the "more," more can come.

Thank you
for hope
and all
its potential,
O God.
Thank you
for stretching us
beyond our
tiny quarters.
Open us up
to more
of you.

Yours, Andrea
