Dear God,

How extraordinary is the cosmos!  The fiery red moon is just one example of what makes the cosmos mysterious and wonderful.  As I read The Hand of God, a compilation of photos taken by the Hubble Space Telescope and writings by scientists and other scholars, I can hardly take in the vastness of space and all its secrets.  I am wowed each time I gaze upon one of the pictures of galaxies millions of light years away. The colors, textures and makeup of each star, nebula and cloud serve to remind us not only do you exist but you are mightily at work creating.

Far too often we see ourselves at the center of our own universe.  We like the applause given us as we do what we do as a leader, teacher, parent, worker or artist.  We enjoy the notoriety others give us.  But when we allow our minds to stretch beyond ourselves, we see how teeny we are, nothing more than a dot yet beloved by the creator of the cosmos.  Today was a day to get perspective.

Holy and Wondrous God,
thank you
for quiet reminders
of sacred dimensions
of life.
Teach us more
and more.
Help us
turn to you
with deep gratitude.

Yours, Andrea
