Dear God,

I'm turning to the saints! I'm going to study the saints for the next few weeks. Even going to preach about them. Who are they? Why are they saints? What do they have to teach us?

A suffering love. It seems to me each one had a suffering love. An unquenchable love for you. And some kind of suffering that seems to have gone beyond human suffering. Yet, in their suffering they sought you, longed for your presence, reached out and in the end made a remarkable witness to the world.

I am a ready student. I want to sit at the feet of these heroes of faith that who would never be comfortable with that title. Humble, loving Christian servants whose love for you outweighed any suffering they ever experienced.

I pray
for a
listening heart,
O God,
one who will listen
for the voices
of faith.
I want
to humble myself
to learn.
These loving servants
have much
to teach me.
Make me
a humble,
willing learner.
I love you.
