Dearest God,

Why do people use religion to beat people down, to lead them to hate you and mistrust others, and to create cold, hard hearts and broken spirits?  Why?  I've seen and read about too many people whose view of you and the world are distorted, severe, and wary.  I don't understand; I really don't understand.

How do we develop faith the way you intended it?  Don't you want us to see you as loving, kind, compassionate, and merciful?  Yes, you challenge us in the midst of daily living.  Yes, you nudge and prod us to consider life and how we are to function when difficulty comes.  But aren't we to become loving, caring people who are intended to care for one another and the earth?.  How do we help each other know you in love?

Show us
the way
to a true,
authentic love,
I pray.
Reveal to us
the way
of love
so that
we may
offer love
to one another.
Forgive us
when we fail
or forget.
Remind us daily
to receive
your love
as you
give it
and to
share it
with the world.

Love, Andrea
