Dear God,

Remembering and celebrating, crying and laughing at the same time.  Death brings loss and sadness but recalling to mind shared moments of joy brings smiles and laughter.  Planning my uncle's memorial service brought it all as I pulled together the pieces of his life.

What a privilege it is to make a final statement about a person's whole life.  In 20 or 30 or even 60 minutes drawing from scripture, music, stories, and prayer, we tell the nutshell version of a life lived for however many years.  In my uncle's case it was 87 years.

As I put pen to paper and my fingers to the computer, my eyes well up as I think about the man who made me laugh, who made me feel loved, wanted, and included, and who revealed a tender care that only you can give.  How do you really share the depth of a relationship that lasted 65 years?

Loving God,
to you
all honor
and glory goes
for the
many gifts
from your hands.
My heart
is full
of thanksgiving
and devotion.

Love, Andrea
