My dearest God,

They came in a stream to pay their last respects to my favorite uncle.  In the winding line that started at the stairway and went through the hall, the entryway and finally down the center aisle to the altar, I talked with people who literally gave shape to our family.  Cousins, school chums I hadn't seen for almost 60 years, old neighbors, friends of mine and my deceased parents, and family members of my deceased aunt by marriage, we hugged, laughed, remembered, wept, and savored precious moments made so long ago.  As we talked, sharing bits and pieces of our DNA, I saw your hand, heard your voice, and witnessed your love.  Who else could throw such a beautiful party?

My heart filled to overflowing. My mind was stretched to recognize people whose faces had changed over decades.  My tears fell in the form of joy.  I realized this was a prelude to heaven and why not?  Isn't it your intent to bring love together to celebrate, enjoy, and inspire?

As I looked out over the family and friends who rested in the pews to join in the celebration of my uncle's life, I gave praise to you. I read passages from my favorite grandmother's aged bible where she had underlined words of encouragement, hope, and wisdom.  I sat by my husband who is a miracle himself and the shared stories of all our lives together was a testimony to faith and trust in you.  As I stood to speak about my grandmother whose first prayer at the birth of my uncle 87 years earlier was one dedicating her son, her sons since he was a twin, to you, all I could do was whisper, "thank you, thank you, thank you.".

What a glorious day, one filled with so many blessings!

Gracious God and Loving Father,
my heart
is full
of praise
and thanksgiving.
Thank you
for all
your gifts
and more.
Thank you
for this day
now etched
in my memory forever.
Please receive
my love
and devotion
as a token
of my gratitude.

Love, Andrea
