Dear God,
As I continue to uncover the wonders that still lay hidden in the living sanctuary you, my neighbor Fran, and I are working together to reveal, I am still wowed by the treasures I continue to find on this Maine land. In the dirt this morning I discovered an old pencil eraser. As I carried it to the steps as part of my treasure box to photograph some day, I thought of the ways you provide erasers for human living.
Erasers are good to rub out something we have written, to provide a way to change something on paper. But they are also helpful to blot out our mistakes, to wipe away evidence of something we have done wrong. They make it possible for us to start fresh, begin anew.
Forgiveness comes to mind when I think of the erasers you have given me in life. When I have felt sorry for what I have done to hurt someone else, when I have deliberately been obstinate or mean spirited and I have confessed my error, your mercy has presented itself to me. You take my sorrow and confession and allow it to clean my slate of sin. You forgive me as I ask for forgiveness and you make my life new. I breathe the sweet smell of your mercy and once again you offer me the opportunity to give thanks, to live life differently, and to make a witness to your grace in the world.
Who knows what waits to be found?
Gracious God,
thank you
for gentle reminders
of your
countless gifts
to humanity.
Teach us,
O Lord,
to rely
on you,
to anticipate
your presence
and your challenges
to rise heavenward
as we seek
you in
daily living.
Thank you
for today's
life lesson.
Love, Andrea
