Dearest God,
As I scan the surface of daily living, I find your living presence in places I do not always expect. Today I found you in homemade lemon ice cream. Yes, that is right, lemon ice cream. The refreshing taste of fresh squeezed lemons and the blend of lemon zest, vanilla, sugar, milk, and half & half combine together to make a delightful, delectable dessert. The ability to taste is an incredible gift and the joy it brings is incomparable.
You have given us all the senses, senses that tell us about your creation. As humans we get the rich opportunity to taste, hear, see, touch, and smell the world around us. And what a beautiful world it is when we realize the gifts are divine. When I lay eyes on a morning sunrise, I turn to you. When I hear a grandchild call out "Grandma!", I seize the moment to say thanks. When I touch my husband's face, I know love. When I smell the aroma of blueberry sour cream coffee cake, I raise my eyes to heaven. When I taste lemon ice cream, I know there is a sacred dimension to life. The senses point me in your direction.
Thank you,
O God,
for sacred gifts.
Thank you
for joy
in each one.
Thank you
for love
that inspires
the senses
and grace
that provides them.
But more
than these,
thank you
for faith
to see
the divine connection.
Love, Andrea
