Dear God,

How sweet the silence before the trains come rolling down the tracks a few blocks away, the cars whiz down the interstate, and the buses flash their lights to pick up children for school.  There is no more perfect time to sit with you, to listen for your word, and to quiet our own racing thoughts.

You make time for us.  In the stillness you take priority.  You call us to attention.  You call our name.  We are not just anyone to you.  We are your child, your beloved children.  Because we are made in your image, you recognize us.  These minutes may be the most important time of the day.

In this chaotic world, we busy ourselves with so many things.  With lists in hand and challenges in our head, we start off with everything but you on our minds.  By day's end we may breathe a quick thanks before dropping off to sleep.  We miss tender moments with you, occasions of quiet mercy, spectacular displays of your living presence, intimate acts of grace, and breathtaking views of your created order.  We forfeit for these for so much less.

Living Lord,
teach us
to begin
each day
with you.
Help us pause
to count
our blessings;
for you
are our
greatest blessing.
Tune our hearts,
my heart,
to you.

Love, Andrea
