Dear God,
How can we love our self and our family if we do not love all your children? So much of what is happening inside our country and around the world seems to say, separate ourselves from one another, dislike and sometimes hate others unlike us, and to be suspicious of every neighbor, nation, and stranger. There is a mean spiritedness in the cosmos and my heart aches.
Who are our mentors today? Who walks the path of peace and invites each of us in? Who models unity, harmony, and merciful love? Who can we follow, O Lord, who?
There is a wonderful hymn entitled, This is My Song, written by Lloyd Stone and Georgia Harkness that bespeaks the kind of world we need to create together. Verse Two goes like this: "My country's skies are bluer than the ocean, and sunlight beams on cloverleaf and pine; but other lands have sunlight too, and clover, and skies are everywhere are blue as mine. O hear my song, thou God of all the nations, a song of peace for their land and for mine." Sisters and brothers around the world breathe the same air as we. Can we not pray for peace for all your family, God?
Holy Father,
help us
create peace
for all peoples.
Help us sing
the only song
worth singing.
Bless you,
O God,
and bless
all your children,
I pray.
Love always, Andrea
