Dear God,
Gray days teach us life lessons. On gray days we realize how much the sun and its warmth mean to us. We miss it. On gray days we recognize how the sunlight gives us energy and enthusiasm for life. We mourn it. On gray days we recall sunny days where we played, laughed, and sang. We wonder if and when they will return.
You give us gray days, O Lord, so we are enabled to reflect on life, to think about your many gifts, and to count our blessings. On those dusky kind of days, we sort of slow down, sometimes feel depressed because we know we are missing something, and we can get a bit ouchy because life isn't quite the way we want it. We forfeit our joy for something so much less.
Gray days point us to you. You remind us to live as grateful people every day. Yes, we love the sunshine because it makes everything so beautiful, colors so vivid, and warms us up inside and out. But when we are not grateful, we take your sunlight, gifts, and blessings for granted. We miss opportunities for deep reflection, thanksgiving, and joy.
Holy Father,
thank you
for gray days,
so invaluable
to us
as spiritual people.
Work on us,
remold us,
remake us,
and renew us
as human children,
beloved by
their maker.
Put a
grateful heart
within us.
Love, Andrea
