Dear God,

When we stand bare before you, we see our truest selves.  We have no need of pretending to be someone other than who we are.  We strip away all the parts of our false self.  There together, you and we or you and I breathe in the full relationship of who we are as parent and child, student and teacher, and creator and created.  This is the most meaningful of our relationship, one with the other.

The tragedy, O God, is that we resist this nakedness, this authenticity, this vulnerability.  We think we can fool you but we cannot.  All the game playing robs us of honest holy moments.

When we are able and ready, such holy moments together can bring us to new understandings, clearer views and release us from our craziness.  It can help us shed all that remains an obstacle between us.  It can give us hope, joy, peace, grace and forgiveness.  It can also provide a fresh, new start at life and help us know we are beloved by the one whose love and acceptance is greater than any other.

Thank you,
Merciful God,
for the gift
of relationship.
Thank you
for making us real.
Thank you
for the cleansing
that comes
when we
spend time
with you.

Love always, Andrea
