Dear God,

The signs of the season are all around and each one cries out, "Our God."  Frost lay heavily on the ground, a sign of winter's coming, a time of barrenness and starkness, a time for memory and reflection, a time of expectancy, dream, hope, discovery and joy.  My heart swells in the thought.

This is such a spiritual time, O Lord.  We see it as less than spring, summer, and fall but it is not, just the opposite.  It is a time of spiritual wandering, anticipation and fullness.  Cold mornings remind us to warm up with your love and compassion.  Snow, ice and storms teach us to trust and rely on you.  It challenges our thinking that we are our own gods, directing life any way we want.  We think we can control things.  But winter, aahh, winter educates us on our need for you and one another.  Winter, time for thought, silence, self examination, faith and possibility.

God of all seasons,
help us dwell
in you
during winter.
Help us discover
what lay hidden
deep in
the soil
and in us.
Teach us
the amazing qualities
of this
rich, wondering season,
I pray.

Love, Andrea
