Dear God,
I found myself saying a long, long list of blessings. As I sat quietly in the back room of my 200-year-old home, all I could do was say one thing after another. As I listened to myself, I realized once again how faith informs us of your goodness.
Daily when I awaken I think of you and the good night's rest I had. That leads me to give thanks for my warm bed, lovely old bedroom, clean water, medicine and on and on. Pictures of my family appear before me and so do scenes of beauty just outside my window with woods, river and a spiritual path.
Although I begin every prayer with thanksgiving, I am aware and pray for all whose lives are not filled with blessings and I ponder your need for me to bless others in every way possible.
Holy God,
you connect us together
as family.
You want us
to take responsibility
for others
by caring
for them.
Brother, sister,
stranger, the wounded
and broken,
the oppressed
and betrayed,
all are
your family
and therefore, mine.
Teach me
long lessons
of compassion,
I pray.
Love, Andrea
