Dear God,
When we drove out the driveway at 5:00 a.m., we encountered fog that stayed with us for more than 200 miles. When we entered Acadia National Park, the fog began to lift. What it revealed was a stunning display of your magnificent creation. We were filled with awe.
The spiritual life is the same, I thought. When we walk in fog, we feel blinded to the realities around us. We can stumble and fall and even lose our way. But when that fog lifts, when your hand pulls up the shade, we see what you see, what you want us to see and what is beautiful.
On the way home while my granddaughter rested, I thought about the gift of fog, how it helps us and what is possible before the fog lifts. On the ride up to the national park, at times the fog and sunshine working together looked like an entrance into my perceived notion of heaven. It was radiant. I could see the hard work being done in the midst of the fog and I was intrigued. When you and your children work together in the midst of the hovering darkness, all things are possible.
Holy God,
thank you
for lessons
that come
when driving.
Thank you
for fog
and its challenge
to reflect,
to grow
and to change.
Thank you
for good gifts
that follow.
Love, Andrea
