Dearest God,

This morning I listened to the voice of Henri Nouwen when he said, "Issues easily imprison; a person can set free.  Issues easily divide us; a person can unite.  Issues easily exhaust; a person can give rest.  Issues easily destroy; a person can offer new life.  Despair is caused by orientation toward issues, but hope emerges when we direct ourselves with heart and mind to the person of a saving God.  That is prayer."

I found myself repentant as I confessed my own bent on issues in our nation and world.  I get so caught up in the despair of the day rather than in the hope of a saving God.  Nouwen's words challenged me to stop the trend and following the savior.

Lead me,
Lord,
lead me
to the
healing power
of faith.
Hold my feet fast
to your
holy word.
Wade through
the flood
of my
own predilections.
May your thoughts
be mine.
