Dear God,
Why must we hurt one another? What possesses us to attack with words and actions? Why do we assume the world is according to us individually?
I continue to be stunned by the actions of politicians and people who continue to rob the most vulnerable in our population. People of color, trans people, the poor and dispossessed, foreigners, people who are different from us are just some who are continually targeted. They want to take away their rights, make it difficult for them to vote, to give voice to their needs and desires and to live a meaningful life. I cannot comprehend the beliefs, behaviors and actions of those who harm, push down and marginalize others.
Of course, to say all this, I am reminded that prejudice, discrimination, hatred, jealousy and poor behavior begins with us, with me. While we want to point to others who are guilty, you call us to look within to see where we may be guilty. Sin has a way of hiding in corners of every human heart.
Reveal your truth,
Loving God,
help us discover
our own wrongdoing.
Guide us
to higher standards
where compassion,
love, acceptance,
understanding and
wisdom reside.
Lead us
to confession,
reconciliation and forgiveness.
Yours, Andrea
