Dear God,
From the warmth of our tiny back room, I watch outside the window as squirrels scurry around with hickory nuts in their mouths. While I did my devotions, I listened as one tried to push their treasure into our window air conditioner. They are all preparing for winter.
Reflecting upon the scampering animals, you bring to mind how important it is to prepare for dark times. Although we don't run around with food in our mouths, you do teach us to collect spiritual and emotional food for difficult times. Things like faith, hope and wisdom can equip us for all kinds of unexpected happenings. When we store up positive items for later, we are prepared to deal with any storm that comes our way. Later while furry creatures dig for their hidden food, we can reach inward to find our own.
Holy God,
you use
the ordinariness
of life
to teach us
the ways
of faith.
You remind us
to prepare
for the future.
If we watch,
wait and listen,
we will discover
everything we need.
Thank you
for the
squirrel lesson today.
Yours, Andrea
