Dear God,

Today our nation remembered 9/11, that horrible day when planes intentionally crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.  Our pain was raw, inconceivable and filled with pain.  We reflected upon the dead, the injured and their loved ones.

The truth is there is more to every story.  Our penchant for hatred is constantly being perpetuated around the world.  And we know the more hatred there is, the greater the risk for violence.  People will be killed; property will be lost and more people will be filled with hatred.  Hatred, after all, begets hatred.

If we do not learn how to move closer to one another in common understanding even if we disagree on many things, we will only grow our hate for others for many reasons or no reason at all.  Is this really the world we want to create because we all play a part in the creation of hatred in our world.

O God,
move us
toward learning more
about each other.
Help us
see one another
through the lens
of peace
and unity.
Forgive us
when we
kill others
with our thoughts,
our weapons
and our hatred.
Reshape our lives.
Remake us.
Help us
find ways
toward peace
for all people.

Yours, Andrea
