Dear God,

I can't get enough of your light!  This morning as I was awakening in my bed, I looked out my window into the sky and hidden among moving tree branches, I saw three sparkling stars.  Brilliant and glowing, I kept thinking how beautiful they were.  Right there I said it, "I can't get enough of your light."

Every day we gravitate toward the light in the world, some good and some not so good.  Puffed-up, self-serving leaders want to give light, but a light that focuses on themselves, their ways, their will and their power.  But what I find is that light lasts for a moment and dulls like yesterday's news.  It has no lasting, meaningful power or beauty.  Over time that light really offers nothing much of anything because human power does not have an eternal, staying power.

When your light shines in the darkness, whatever that darkness is, it stuns us because it is so beautiful, warm and filled with hope.  It keeps us going until the greater light rises within us.  Right now, our world is in a battle for the light that counts, one that shines on all, one that offers hope, beauty, and peace.  There is only one light that is powerful enough to counteract the tinny, substitute light some are offering.  Help us reach for the light that can change our world for all her people!

O God,
forgive us
when we search
for light
that does
not fill us
with divine radiance.
The light
that fills us
is the
same kind
of light
that can
be shared
with others
walking in darkness.
Help us remember
our neighbor
near and far
needs light too.
Help us never
to forget them.

Yours, Andrea
