Dear God,

After dinner we sat out on the veranda to take a look at spring in the green-laden hills. A campfire was burning but no one was sitting nearby. I almost went down, inviting my friends to go with me. But then I saw a group of women walking out together, making a circle around the fire.

As my friends swung in the porch swing and I sat in the chair, we shared funny stories and laughed. But then we heard someone talking about Moses, the Moses of the Bible. We hushed and listened. The women must have been on retreat because they started singing, “We are climbing Jacob’s ladder.” In sweet harmony the women sang favorite Christian camp songs and we sang along.

Nearby in a room just down the way we heard someone calling a square dance. And down on the knoll children and a dad played. But still we could hear voices declaring their faithful praise.

I thought to myself. It is sometimes hard to hear your voice above all the voices on earth. It is hard to decipher the word of God in the midst of all the busy sounds. But not tonight. While the world turned, we listened to the women sing their praise.

You are holy,
Good Father,
and I love
to hear
your voice
sing praise.
What a joy
to hear
sounds of faith.
Sing on,
Wondrous God,
sing out
for all
the world
to hear.

Love, Andrea
