Dear God,
Why do we feel the need to back ourselves into a corner? Why do we hold on to selfish interests when the only way to move forward is compromise? What happens inside us when we can't let go in order for a better good to emerge?
As I watch what is happening inside Washington, I wonder what it would take for each person to set aside their personal interest in order to imagine the good of the country together. What if each person would let go of their desire to run again in order to reveal to the nation what it means to truly work together? What if the party line was dropped altogether so that men and women could stand as equals holding the hand of their neighbor? What might be achieved beyond themselves because they were willing to unite as one spirit at work for the people? What model might that be for the rest of the world?
Teach us
to compromise,
dear Lord;
teach us
to trust you.
Lead us
to pools
of fresh water
where we
are refreshed
and enabled
to see
the light
that can draw
us together.
Help us
find our way,
we pray.
Love, Andrea
