Dearest God,

I don't know when I have felt more like your handmaid.  As I continue to work with you to fulfill your dream for the sanctuary in the woods, I think of many of the handmaids throughout history.  To be counted one among them is such a privilege and joy.

Just this morning I had the sense that my husband and I were directed to purchase our home here on Pleasant Street so I could indeed partner with you to create a sanctuary in the woods, a peaceful place away from the chaos, clutter, and corruption of human living.  Not that I believe life is bad, I don't.  However, what I hear and see on television makes me want to give life to something truly beautiful, simple, pleasing, hopeful, and grace-filled.  When politicians spill lies, deceit, and negative campaigning, I feel driven to clean up the environment, sending off positive waves into the atmosphere.  This may sound arrogant, silly, and foolish but I have little tolerance for public behavior that debases, demoralizes, and attempts to destroy others by words and actions.  Is this really what we want our children to aspire to?

As I plant colorful tulips, iris, daffodils and many other kinds of bulbs and flowers in the woodland garden, I realize your intent for humanity is to plant goodness, hope, strength, affirmation, love, grace, and faith.  On my tiny speck in the garden on Pleasant Street, I am grateful to be planting joy.

Gracious God,
thank you
for the opportunity
to serve you
in this way.
Forgive me please
when I fail
to plant
the right things
in human life.
Remind me continually
of your plan
for creation
then set
my hand
to plant you
in the hearts,
minds, and souls
of all
your children
on earth,
I pray.

Love, Andrea
