Dear God,
Thank you for rest, that recuperative feeling of restoration. There is no substitute for rest that gives the whole body an opportunity to relax, to be lazy, to be at peace. When my body is so weary and I feel I cannot go one more step, my bed, floor, couch, or chair all look very good to me. I know that ability to rest is what you build into our DNA. Every cell in our body cries out for rest every day and you give us the chance to restore ourselves.
I realized this morning rest is not just for the physical body but also for the human spirit. When we hold so many details, responsibilities, thoughts, and feelings within us, we need to surrender them to rest. We need to allow rest to restore us giving us equilibrium. We need rest in order to have perspective. We need rest so we can have a clear vision for life.
Rest is another one of your gifts because life can get so jumbled up when we are tired, exhausted from all life entails. I remember your words, "Come to me, all who are weary, and I will give you rest." Who would not want to come?
Thank you,
Generous God,
for rest
for our
weary souls.
Take all
we carry
so we
may surrender
to you.
Love, Andrea
