Dear God,
Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany all direct my soul to you. They are national holidays to be sure but they are so much more. In fact if they were not more, I would not celebrate them.
Because they are more, I savor them. I reflect upon what makes me thankful and who I need to thank. I love the festivities around each special day because they move and inspire me. They jostle me from my every day living and cause me to think on higher things. I have to acknowledge I am not the center of the cosmos but there is One who is. I have to think about faith and when, where, and how I apply it in my day-to-day activities. I have to consider the fragility and beauty of human life and what it means to be one of the many humans walking the planet. I have to ponder the sacred dimension of life and make a decision if I will bend to it. I have to listen to the holy scriptures that tell and retell the stories of faith and determine how they apply in 2013 and how I will live them out in hope, joy, peace, and love. I have to evaluate your plan for my life and determine where I need to make course adjustments. I have to think of you and your will, your way, and your grace. These four special days call me to task and I am grateful.
Almighty God,
thank you
for faith challenges
that cause me
to reassess
my devotion
to you.
During these
special times
teach me,
guide me,
and use me,
I pray.
Love, Andrea
