Dearest God,

The sorrow on the mother/grandmother's face was so deep and despairing when she learned the plane had crashed killing her son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren.  Only your kind of comfort, love, and mercy can heal her.

Hours after witnessing that image on the television I still see her face.  Only in some teeny tiny way can I feel her pain; for you have built into human beings the capacity to care about each other.  You have made us to care for one another.

No one is exempt from pain and loss.  When we love, we are vulnerable to pain and suffering.  When we invest in others, we are enabled to feel their pain.  When they hurt, we hurt with them.

I take heart in the fact you pour out your compassion upon us.  You show us the way to healing and wholeness.  You give us friends, family, and sometimes even strangers who come to our rescue bringing us the salve of relief.  Although we carry the mark of suffering somewhere deep in our soul, we learn your light and love go even deeper aiding the healing process from the inside out.

Compassionate God,
shine the light
of your
tender love
upon this mother
and grandmother.
Fill her
with your mercy.
Hold her,
cradle her
in your arms,
Heavenly Father;
show her
your grace,
I pray.

Love, Andrea
