Dear God,

Why do small annoyances trouble us so?  Why do we allow ourselves to be irritated?  There are some things that get under our skin.  They disturb us causing us discomfort.  In order to rid ourselves of the problem, we behave in ways that do not bring honor to you or to ourselves.

When we eye ourselves under the spiritual microscope, we can readily see those characteristics that create problems for us.  When we insist on our own way, when we try to tell others what to do, or when we neglect or ignore someone else, we fail to be fully faithful.  When we fall prey to annoyances and we do not pray or ask for help, we continue to forfeit a promising life.  We miss out on joy, hope, peace, and life.

On the other hand, when we trust you to assist us in life's turns and twists, we are enabled to join the celebration of overcoming.  When we pause, breathe in faith, and turn our eyes toward you, we feel uplifted, humbled, and ready to surrender that which we allow to bring us low.

Teach us
the ways
of faith,
Holy God;
show us
the way home.
Let your
light shine
on our sin
so we
may address
the dark places
bringing them
into the light.
Cleanse us
from within,
I pray.

Love, Andrea
