Dearest God,

Worry, fear, and anxiety plagued my heart yesterday.  Concerns about family, the holiday season, and our nation and world threatened to overcome me.  I could not set my own spirit free.  So I put on Christmas music and let it work its miracle upon my restless soul.

What I discovered is this:  Christmas music is not a seasonal sound; it is the music of faith.  Through the lyrics, melodies, and harmonies the sound of angels can be heard.  As they work to speak to ready souls, they soothe the anxious heart, clear the muddied mind, and spread the contagious joy of heaven.  We hear and find ourselves believing all over again.

The first song that wafted its way to me as I sewed in the basement was Silent Night, Holy Night.  What happened to me was an act of mercy.  As the singer described the holy scene, I realized the holy baby of Bethlehem is not only a story of long ago but a fresh, sincere act of faith inside me.  My soul is the resting place for that holy child who transformed my very own heart.  As I listened and sang along, I found my troubles still very real, yet, placed in the context of faith, the peace the baby came to bring the world came today even to me.

Holy Father,
let Christmas abound!
Let its power
speak faith
to all
its listeners.
Ring in faith.
Let peace reign
for all
the citizens
of earth.
Bless you,
Lord of Christmas,
bless you.

Love, Andrea
