Dear God,
One touch from you, a simple acceptance of a burdened-down complainer with poor health, changed everything. Charlotte Elliott was so moved by your divine grace in 1836 that she wrote a poem which became the greatest invitational hymn of all time. Just As I Am came to be out of her simple question to a Swiss minister, "You mean I can come to God just as I am?" "Yes," he said.
Millions of Christians still sing that song and feel the pull of faith. I know I do. I did not know it came out of so much sorrow and pain until I read about this one woman's difficulty. In reading my morning devotion from Then Sings My Soul, I know, we know the touch of the Master who not only touches souls but transforms them.
Thank you
for Charlotte Elliott.
Thank you
for her song.
Thank you
for her faith
that touches
my own.
Love, Andrea
