Dear God,

My devotional reading talked about being filled with the "oil of gladness."  The oil of gladness, so much more than happiness and even joy.  It is an indwelling of holy wonderment.  Such gladness is eternal and comes from your own hand.  It is a close encounter, very close, with the sacred.

To be filled with you, O Holy One, to be filled with you brings a kind of exuberance that overwhelms.  The oil of gladness is the gift of your holy living presence.  I have experienced this oil and have always known it was not an earthly rending.  I always thought Mary poured this oil upon you when you came into her house.  The expensive perfume came not only from her faith in you but also her love for you which she simply believed was your love mirrored back.  How beautiful!  She gave her best gift.

O Lord.
Fill us
with you.
Help us
fill up others
with this kind
of gladness,
I pray.
