Dear God,
In the early morning hours I stood at the window looking out at the woods. It appeared dark but then the sun's rays spread through the trees and the light shined. I thought to myself the light is always more beautiful than the darkness.
Then why do we choose the darkness over the light? Why do we cling to that which blinds us? Why do we close our eyes to the brightness of your light?
We are such silly creatures. Our choices are sometimes made from our toes. We don't think. We grab hold of life as it is as a way to never have to move, to make permanent residence and to live daily in the dark.
At one time or another we have all been touched by your light, O Lord, because you have shone it upon us. You have radiated your brilliance on us. You have warmed us and stilled us. You have filled us with your light's peace. And we have welcomed you.
Why do we often choose the darkness over the light?
Gracious God,
thank you
for your light
that shines
in spite
of us.
Thank you
for agape love
that is
the light.
Thank you
for keeping us
in your tender care
and for
gentle reminders
that the light
is always better.
Love, Andrea
