Dear God,

I awakened at 4:00 a.m. this morning and couldn't go back to sleep so I got up and moved to our study which is a converted screened-in back porch.  As I looked up into the sky, I was drawn to put on my robe and slippers and step outside.  The teeny, white stars twinkled in the dark night sky.  I thought to myself if I had a sky pen, I could connect all the dots and find a picture of God, a picture of you looking back at me.

Then I went downstairs looking for an Advent book to read during my devotional time.  I was drawn to my desk downstairs and there beside my desk was a book I wrote in 2008 entitled, A Mystical Season of Reflection.  As I leafed through the pages, my heart was warmed by family stories of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany.  I had almost forgotten it but as I scanned a story or two, I realized I hadn't forgotten the stories.  How perfect, I thought, to read my own families stories during the weeks leading up to Christmas.

As I sit here writing, the stars are twinkling outside and my family stories are anxiously waiting to be read.  I realize once again the powerful way in which you work to lead us to faith.  You are outside and in and I am filled with the hope of Advent.

Bless you,
Holy Father,
for the gifts
so early
this morning.
Thank you
for wondrously
blessing us.
Thank you
for the wonders
of faith.

Love always, Andrea
