Dear God,

When he walked into the aisle prior to the Christmas concert, he asked me where the Bible was.  When I pulled it out of the holder, he asked me to show him where heaven was.  I turned to the gospel of John and read to him the passage about the many mansions in heaven.  Without even sitting down, he asked, "Is that where Daddy Jason is?"  "Yes." I replied.  "Is there a place for me too?"  He continued.  "Absolutely."  I said.

Little Alan lost his dad less than a month ago when his adopted brother intentionally started a fire in the house which killed his father right after saving his other two sons.  This little boy, just ten years old, was adopted too after living in 26 foster homes by age seven.  All throughout the concert he asked questions about heaven, faith and how to know where God is.  I just held him close to me.

I realize just how much we all need you, Living God.  We need the assurance that your love is personal and real.  We need your power and presence leading us to paths of hope and peace.  We need faith that opens the door to a wider understanding of life.  Little Alan reminded me how hungry we all are for you.

In this
Advent season
open us
to the revelation
of faith.
Show us
the way.
Make us receptive
to your
loving presence.
Be especially close
to Little Alan
and all
like him,
I pray.

Love, Andrea
