Dear God,

How can you stand the sin of your people?  When we rise up to follow other idols or do what we want to harm others, how do you stand the stink of our sin?

When I see our nation's leaders feed their own greed sacrificing the poor, vulnerable and needy, I wonder why you don't rain fire upon the earth.  But, of course, when I gaze upon the guilty in Washington, I must also look at myself.  My sin is no better than theirs.

How grateful I am for Advent, those many days leading up to Christmas when we have opportunity to examine our lives, repent, and make ready for the coming of the redeemer.  Why would I want you to birth something good within me when I have black smudges that need to be cleaned?

Blessed Lord,
my sin
is ever
before me.
I am sorry
I bring sorrow
to heaven.
Please forgive
my foolish ways.
Cleanse me
from within,
deep within.
Refuse to come
to me
until I
clean myself up.
Make me
a stable
worthy of Christ.

Love, Andrea
