Dear God,

In this new year thank you for the opportunity to leave the past behind, all the mistakes we made and and the clutter and debris that needed surrender.  Thank you for the chance to let go, to jettison the weight of sin and all the disappointments and failures.  Thank you for the privilege of living again.

Throughout life you give us time and space for new beginnings, for being reshaped from the ungodly blobs we sometimes become and for renewing our spirit.  Thank you for the air of your Holy Spirit that can breathe new life into us.

On this second day of the new year help us reclaim our faith and allow you to grow it this year.

for mercy
that comes
when we realize
how powerless
we are sometimes
to change ourselves.
Make us
in your image.
Increase our faith,
forge a new
and right spirit
within us
and give us
new resolve
to bless you
and our world.
