Dear God,

In my devotional reading today I read about Joshua and the Israelites as they crossed over the Jordan River into the promised land.  "Pick up twelve stones," Joshua said to leaders of the twelve tribes,"and build an altar commemorating God's mighty work in our lives."  He went on to tell them every time they saw the stones they were to tell their children about God's love and power.

Although I deeply struggle with the concept of friends and enemies in the bible where storytellers ask for God's favor for friends and family and God's destruction of enemies, men, women and children, I recognize the power of story to remind us how God helps us overcome, triumph over difficulties in human life.  Sharing faith, trust and prayer with others teaches us to become faith-filled followers.

This morning I recognized I too have altars where you helped me overcome.  You are calling me to share and tell the story as well.

O God,
you are God;
there is none
like you.
How grateful
I am
for your
loving mercy.
Thank you
for calling me
to listen
and tell.

Love, Andrea
