Dear God,

Early this morning I drove to Walmart before it opened thinking I could park up close, run inside, grab a few things and get out.  Silly me.  When I arrived half the parking lot was full.  People were already lined up.  I turned around and came home.

As I was driving in the dark, something came to me.  What was that I saw?  I asked myself.  What was it that I saw as I looked at the people standing in line in front of the building?  Then it came to me and I saw it very clearly:  Christ in the Walmart line.

Many years ago I saw a piece of art.  Called Christ in the Breadline, it is a black and white picture of Jesus standing in the line waiting his turn for bread.  This morning it became Christ in the Walmart line.  The faces were different but Jesus was the same.

Thank you,
Holy God,
for the gift
of your presence
at Walmart
this morning.
Thank you
for drawing close
to all
of us.
Your love
is great enough
to encircle
the globe,
everywhere with everyone.
Thank you.

Love, Andrea
