Dear God,

"What is truth?"  Pilate asked of Jesus.  "What is truth?"  In our world today truth has been assaulted from every corner.  Yet, I am reminded of the words of Jesus who remarked:  "You will know the truth and the truth will set you free."

Our world seems broken because truth has been slaughtered, dissected and reconstructed by those who want the truth to be something other than what it is.  No, I do not believe any one person has all the truth.  That is why we need one another's perspective, belief and wisdom.  At the same time when truth has been robbed of its value, tossed aside and burned, it is difficult to hold on to what we know is absolutely true.

At times when my soul has been troubled by various issues, I have sought to cling to these words of Jesus because I desperately needed the freedom that truth gives.  When I opened my mind to you and really allowed you to speak truth to me, I have discovered freedom waiting for me.  When I closed my mind desiring only to believe what I thought, freedom was elusive.  Not only do I need the truth that frees, so does our world.

Holy and Living God,

help us want

what you want.

Open us

to your truth,

the only kind

that frees

and makes whole.

Teach us

to be

real truth seekers.
