Dear God,
Courage, faith, bravery, commitment and determination are the words that struck me as I walked through the Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Could I have ever been that courageous to put my own self and my family at risk to help others whose lives were on the line? Could I have been a conductor on the Underground Railroad? I wish I could say an absolute yes but I think I am I would be too afraid, too weak. I hate even saying that; I hate it.
While learning more about freedom through the underground railroad, I heard the voices of courageous men and women speak about faith and its power to overcome enough to take risks for others. Each time one more slave found freedom, their courage, faith and determination grew. What I know is I want to be that person.
I am weak
but you
are strong.
Help me become
a person
of strength,
faith and courage,
O Lord.
Thank you
for all
whose witness
changed bondage
into liberation.
Love, Andrea
