Dear God,

Waiting has a sacred place in the spiritual life.  Waiting is not just anxiously or angrily letting time pass until we get what we want.  It is holy waiting, waiting for you to speak, waiting for the heart to quiet and recenter and waiting for the time of ripening.  Holy waiting is expectant waiting, knowing the prized moment in which the human-divine connection will more fully be revealed will come.

As a child I did not want to wait.  As a teenager I did not want to wait.  As an adult, I did not want to wait.  Yet, as I observed faith-filled people wait, I discovered waiting was more than I thought it was.  Waiting is trusting you.  It is setting aside my desire for you.  It is breathing in the air of your spirit and praying.

Waiting is rarely easy because it teaches patience.  It broadens our perspective.  It gives opportunity for change and transformation.

Although I still don't like to wait very much, I have found waiting to be more of a friend as I sit with you on the waiting bench.

Thank you,
Loving God,
for the lessons
of faith.
Thank you
for the act
of waiting
that teaches
more than gives.
Thank you
for being
my teacher.

Love, Andrea
