Dear God,

Today is the day to remember and give thanks!  I thank you for every woman who ever stepped into my life.  Some of those who bubble to the top are the following:

My mother Betty Hughes who aspired to be a wife and mother.  Thank you for the lessons she taught me.  My grandmother Lois Hughes whose spirit, generosity and faith inspired me to rise to God in every aspect of life.  My first-grade teacher Miss Stewart who was sweet and made school a joyful place in which to learn.  My high school business teacher who taught me how to type when I had so much trouble.  My aunts Jodie Hughes and Caroline Kincaid who always drew me in, taught me how to make down-home country cooking.  My aunt Jeanne Cappelli who loved God and lived by example.  My cousin Donna who was my best cousin and friend for so many years who simply loved me.  My three daughters Janice, Jennifer and Jill whose own example of motherhood showed me I did something right but who improved upon everything I did and are fierce lovers and fighters for their children.  The Carmelite sisters whose faith, unconditional love and forgiveness taught me so much more than any church.

These are but a few who on this Mother's Day come to my mind blessing me once again.  Thank you, O Lord, for each one.

Great Giver of Gifts,
thank you
for all
the women
who have
touched my life.
For the neighbor,
teacher and
even stranger
who along
the way
smiled, helped,
accepted, guided
and blessed me.
May each one
know my love today.

Yours, Andrea
