Dear God,

What is prayer but a love letter to you and those to whom we are praying.  It says, "I care so much."  It makes sense when we are praying for those we love.  But I know it means just as much when we pray for strangers, people from suffering nations, world leaders, first responders and even those we consider as enemies or at least adversaries.  Perhaps it means even more when we offer them up in prayer.

The Carmelite community taught me to pray for our world.  In so many ways they said we cannot just pray for those we love; we must pray for all especially those for whom we vehemently disagree with.  We must pray for each one as if they are family.  In reality they really are.
