Dear God,

We must always be prepared for disaster to strike by trusting in you, strengthening our faith and following your will.  As we armor up for troubles to come, we can enable ourselves to weather whatever we may have to face.

As I listen to news events, I realize many people are having to deal with crushing realities.  Domestic violence, random mass shootings, unjust wars, extreme poverty and sudden health issues send us reeling, make us anxious and fearful and can in many cases paralyze us for the future.  Despair can come calling leading us to unhealthy decisions.

None of us are adequately prepared for unsuspecting troubles.  We are not ready for our children to be shot in schools or malls.  We are not ready for cancer.  We are not ready for soldiers to attack our homes and families.  We are not ready to choose between paying our electric bills and feeding our children.  We simply are not ready.

However, you give us many opportunities to strengthen our resolve, build up our faith and renew our courage.  When we walk closely with you, we can breathe in the gifts of your spirit.  We can produce hope, peace and joy in the long walks.  When difficulties come, with you we can do even the impossible.

Holy God,
we need you
so very much.
We need
your strength,
your mercy
and your power.
Thank you
for all
your provisions.

Yours, Andrea
