Dear God,

Last Sunday I was drawn to the huge cross at the front of the sanctuary.  As I gazed upon it, I was flooded with memories of crosses across my seventy plus years.  There was the cross necklace when I was a teenager.  There were beautiful crosses purchased in Greece, Israel, Egypt, Italy and Ireland.  Across my ministry I had several crosses built for youth and adult retreats.  The small wooden cross in my billfold just now was given to me just a few months ago by a Catholic sister when she learned I had been diagnosed with bladder cancer.  Crosses have held significant value all my life.

As I reflect upon the impact crosses have made in my emotional and spiritual life, I realize how such a simple symbol can transform, convert, guide, help and replenish human life.  Each has a story to convey to touch and inspire.  But, of course, they are wooden, metal, jeweled, cloth and knitted.  In and of themselves they are of little value but what they represent and who they direct us too is of very great value and meaning.  As I ponder their significance, I am once again reminded how they draw me always and especially to you.

You are God;
there is none
like you.
Thank you
for each person
who gifted me
with the cross
of your son.
Thank you
for the reminder
of my savior.

Yours, Andrea
