Dear God,
I realize the risks of forgiveness. It opens up the most vulnerable places in the human soul. When we are wide open, anything, anybody can just walk right in. And so, we fail to forgive because we imagine that we will be caught off guard and we will be hurt once again.
Although I can forgive and do, there is a sealed door inside me that remains closed to the next step in forgiveness and that is allowing the door to remain open. When I am honest and think about people who have hurt me, I scringe and squeeze that door a little harder. I am like a security guard constantly protecting my most vulnerable place.
I know you do not want this for us! I know you want us to permit you to stand at the door opening and closing the door when the need calls for it. In the meantime, you want to fill that doorway with your agape love. You want that door to be surrounded with love deeper and wider than our own vision and capacity for love. You want to erase the built-up fear that shrinks our ability for a beautiful, fulfilling life. You are constantly whispering your love for us whether we hear it or not because you can't not love us.
Holy God,
thanks for
loving us
like no
one else can.
Thank you
for standing
at the door
to our heart.
Thank you
for reminding us daily
we do not
have to
be afraid.
Love, Andrea
