Dear God,
I learned a long time ago that darkness can be very black, so black we are convinced there is no light. Yet, when we release our anxiety into your hands, we are enabled to see the light when it appears. It may be just a spark, a tiny glow, but it is enough to produce hope.
Yesterday morning my daughter called me. What we discussed was her health, upcoming injections to help tears in her neck and back, and her pain. But what we really talked about was faith. Faith helps us in the darkness until we are able to see the light. Faith uses different people, sometimes the least likely, those we do not expect to shine light for us. Faith makes the future possible. Faith holds us like a newborn in the hands of ecstatic new parents. Faith encourages us. Faith points us heavenward where we see more than our problem. Faith teaches us lessons we may not learn until we are in the darkness. Faith strengthens us giving us courage. Faith refreshes us like a gentle rain on a hot, dry day.
As we talked I was so happy to hear the witness of my youngest daughter. She has been through so much; yet, she sees the way you have had your hand upon her, how you have worked miracles, you have built faith in the midst of difficulty, and you have poured out your mercy. What a beautiful way she is sharing faith with her young children to enable their trust in you for their future.
Yes, the darkness will threaten but it is no more than a threat. The light is never ultimately snuffed out. It shines right now, tomorrow, and always. Praise be to God!
Holy God,
thank you
for darkness
that reminds us
of the light.
Thank you
for spiritual lessons
that come
while we
walk blind
in the darkness.
Teach us
to train
our eyes
to look up
where the light
will always appear
in one way
or another.
Thank you
for your
wonderful reminder.
and thank you
for my
wonderful daughter!
Love, Andrea
